Standing high above the ocean and the golf course, The Sea House offers a panoramic view of both the immediate area, the Isle of Sheppey to its left and often the coast beyond. Its proud, late traditional Victorian exterior contrasts with a bright, spacious, modern interior. This is a perfect pad for families, friends and couples alike, whether it’s for a much-needed break, a celebration or a breath of fresh air in which to have a staycation, do some work or write that book you’ve always dreamed of. It’s set in a conservation area in the coastal jewel of Whitstable, a small town rich in smuggling history, famous for its annual Oyster Festival, restaurants, music, art and water sports.
There’s ample living space, making this a perfect retreat for those wanting their own space to spread out. The large living room is situated on the ground floor and can be divided into two, each with its own fire, affording a TV/relaxing area to the front and a play/reading/relaxing area at the back with French doors opening onto the garden. Both rooms have recently been renovated and furnished to include Loaf sofas and furniture. There’s a large wood-burning stove in the front living room (operated by gas), an old school record player and records, board games and throws galore. Everything you need to snuggle up and chill out.
At the rear of the ground floor is a very well-equipped, light and spacious kitchen, extending to the dining area with seating for 8. Here the impressive bi-fold doors open out onto the extensive Mediterranean garden, affording separate areas for space to play, lounge and eat.
The garden is divided by Moroccan planters. To the front there is a large Neptune dining table and chairs for more formal dining and to the rear there is a 6-person sofa, table and chairs for a more chilled out vibe. Between the living space and the kitchen/dining areas are a downstairs toilet and a utility area with washer/dryer. The entire downstairs floor area is basked in beautiful Amtico flooring and warmed by underfloor heating.
There is one large bedroom on the lower first floor with a cosy snug overlooking the garden; a twin bedroom and a second large bedroom with a super king-size bed and a view of the golf course on the upper first floor. Also on the lower first floor is a gorgeous botanically themed wet room.
The ‘piece de resistance’ is the stunning bedroom on the second floor where you can feast your eyes on the nearby sea, not just from the window but also from the free-standing bath and super king-size bed. This luxurious room also has a walk-in shower. You may never want to leave!
There is private parking for one car at the rear of the property plus on-street public parking outside the front of the house.
Whitstable is truly a seaside gem, more like a village by the sea than a town. It’s the perfect place to try out water sports like kayaking, paddle boarding and sailing.
The town is renowned for its wide range of award-winning restaurants and coffee shops. A favourite is ‘JoJo’s’, situated nearby in Tankerton; (you’ll need to book quite a bit in advance) and Blueprint Coffee Shop on the high street. Whitstable has a wonderful working harbour, a selection of brilliant, independent stores and a small castle with stunning grounds.
Whitstable is situated about 7 miles from the cathedral city of Canterbury which makes a fab day trip. Famous for its oysters, the town has become a favourite holiday destination for many. Once you visit, you’ll be back for more!
