From all the coverage of Pokemon Go in recent weeks, you can’t help but have noticed that large sections of society have been taken over by the latest smartphone game.
For those of you who haven’t yet heard about it, Pokemon Go is a reality-based game, which encourages users to explore their surroundings and collect fictional animals. The Pokemon that you can collect vary depending on the type of area that you are in. As a result, Whitstable’s beaches and harbour provide an excellent habitat for water based Pokemon.
This is a game for all ages, so the Places to Stay in Whitstable team decided to collate the best spots for someone over 18 to get the most out of their Whitstable/Pokemon experience.
Whitstable has been blessed with a number of Pokestops and Gyms, most of these are in or adjacent to pubs.

The Pearson’s
Not only does this seafront pub serve great cocktails and food, it is also a Pokemon stop. Pop in, grab a cocktail or a pint of Gadd’s No5 and set yourself a lure.
The Smack
Situated in Middle Wall, this pub has a Pokestop and a sea themed outside garden, where you can soak up the rays.
The Duke of Cumberland
While this popular pub may not have its own Pokestop, you can take advantage of the adjacent one at the Horsebridge. The best place for this is to hang about in the courtyard garden and sup on a cooled pint.
The Twelve Taps
As well as having fantastic, independently brewed beer selection, prosecco on tap and eclectic gin shelf, The Twelve Taps is also situated in a triangle of Pokestops. Perfect if you’re out with some friends who have some lures.
The Old Neptune
This pub on the beach has fantastic sea views, great food, a good selection of beer, live music and is also a Pokemon Gym. Do battle at the bar or whilst taking in the stunning sunset outside.
Whitstable Castle
Sit outside, eat some delicious homemade cake and enjoy the two Pokestops that the Castle has to offer.
The Royal
Set on Tankerton Slopes, The Royal has two Pokestops accessible from its garden and has reportedly seen large spawnings of Pikachus.
